Mentors for non-traditional Computer Science students in university
We need volunteer mentors to provide one-to-one mentoring to first-generation, care experienced, estranged, and displaced students currently studying for undergraduate degrees in Computer Science in the UK. You must have at least an undergraduate degree in Computer Science. Mentors commit to a 12 month role with a student, where they are expected to meet at least once each month for at least 30 minutes by phone, video, or in person (if reasonable). Mentorship is geared towards understanding how university works and does not include course content tutoring support.

Volunteers must have completed a bachelor's degree in Computer Science in the UK as this is the lived experience that we base the Mentorship Programme on. Mentors will leverage their personal experience from their time in university to help the student they are matched with to remain engaged in their studies, understand how to navigate the university environment, take advantage of more opportunities available to them, and successfully complete their university degrees.
Volunteers benefit by developing leadership skills, knowing they are a force for good in the life of a non-traditional university student, getting to meet and know people from diverse backgrounds, and engaging in personal growth through the support of another person.
Mentors are asked to meet with their students at least once per month for at least 30 minutes. At the beginning of each month, mentors are asked to complete a short (approximately 5 minute) survey about their work with their student the previous month. In June each year, mentors are asked to complete a longer feedback survey and are offered a one-on-one meeting to discuss their experience in the Mentorship Programme.
