Detailed Description

The View Magazine CiC is a campaigning organisation, dedicated to giving a voice to women within the criminal justice system. Our team publishes a quarterly magazine, and sends out over 2,000 copies into women's prisons, free of charge. We advocate for less incarceration and much better funded and accessible mental health services. We are looking to hire a motivated editorial assistant to join our creative and ambitious in-house editorial team. The volunteer role is a junior position within the editorial team, and will work mainly across three areas: Administrative tasks & Organisation: - Supporting commissioning editors with organisational tasks to assist with the development of articles. This may include working with writers and suppliers to schedule interviews, book meetings and complete day-to-day administrative tasks. Research, sub editing, and fact checking: - Supporting writers and editors with research for articles, drafting reports and notes on key topics and themes, completing first read thoughts of articles and fact checking claims and statements made in articles. Training will be provided to the successful candidate on The View’s style guide and standard fact-checking practice. Production and delivery: - Uploading finished articles to The View’s website, drafting headlines and social media copy, creating article imagery and liaising with the social media assistant to ensure coverage for key projects. - The editorial assistant will be directly managed by the Editor-in-Chief, however, they will have the opportunity to work with our team and also on our Rebel Justice University Societies. - Previous experience is not essential for this volunteer role, however, consideration will be given to those able to showcase their enthusiasm for a career in journalism and interest in the workings of the journalism and media industries.
