Detailed Description

More Life Home (MLH) is a not-for-profit organisation working to support the most vulnerable residents in Tower Hamlets dealing with the issue of Furniture Poverty. We are a young company, passionate about supporting those living in poverty and ensuring everyone has access to affordable, good quality furniture. We recycle good quality furniture items, due to be sent to landfill, and instead install them in the homes of families unable to afford them. We work from 2 sites - a pre-loved clothes and homeware retail shop in Aberfeldy Street, and a small warehouse in Crossharbour, both in E14. As a volunteer Retail Assistant, you will be part of a team assisting the shop manager in managing the daily running of the pre-loved clothes and homeware shop, located in Aberfeldy Street, Poplar. Your tasks will include handling donations, speaking with and serving customers, visual merchandising, and maintaining the shop floor. You will receive ongoing training and support and over time, if you wish, you can work towards leading a shift, training new volunteers and on occasions be left in charge. Tasks include: • Opening, closing, and looking after the shop. • Speaking with customers about MLH’s services and serving them at the till. • Helping to merchandise the shop floor to make it presentable and inviting to customers. • Sorting, steaming, and pricing donations. There is no minimum time commitment for the role but we usually ask for 4 hours per week in order to make the opportunity beneficial for both the organisation and the volunteer. Volunteering hours are anytime between Wednesday and Saturday, 10.00am – 6pm. This role is open to anyone aged 18+. A great opportunity to gain retail experience.
