An exciting role to use your leadership skills to guide and support the Team Leader of a team of highly committed, enthusiastic volunteers to help adults locally to learn to read. Assist the Team Leader in running meetings, setting the agendas, and be involved in decision making for the team, who support the reading pairs. Read Easy Hackney is affiliated to Read Easy UK, a national charity that helps adults learn to read and which has nearly 40 local groups across England. Read Easy Hackney is Read Easy UK's first London group. It was established in March 2018 and has grown to be a highly impactful local group with over 30 Reading Pairs (Reading Coach and Reader). It is run by an enthusiastic and highly committed management team, all of whom are also volunteers. The Team is now seeking a Deputy Team Leader to support the Team Leader, helping to oversee and grow this vibrant group.

* Strong leadership, team management skills and experience, with the ability to motivate and inspire trust and confidence in others. * Strategic thinking to set goals, plan work and delegate. * A willingness and ability to challenge others, deal with underperformance and manage conflict when necessary. * Confidence in using IT. * The ability to use initiative and work independently. * Good communication skills and willingness to offer support to the Team. * A non-judgemental attitude and respect for others, with a commitment to equality and diversity, to make everyone feel valued and included. * Energy and enthusiasm with an average of four to five hours a week to commit to the role.

This role can mostly be done remotely. Therefore, anyone living in Hackney (or a neighbouring borough) could undertake it. RE Hackney works out of local venues (mostly libraries) and so does not require or have its own premises.
