Women at the Well
Women@theWell is a Catholic charity which provides support to women facing exploitation in prostitution, and which is committed to the abolition of prostitution and sexual exploitation in the long term. We are recruiting new trustees to join our friendly and energetic Board.
TRUSTEE ROLE DESCRIPTOR Trustees are collectively responsible for the Charity pursuing its aims well, in good faith, and using its resources appropriately. This includes each trustee: • ensuring the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit; • complying with the charity’s governing document (acting within the powers of the board) and the law; 2 • acting in the charity’s best interests (and avoiding conflicts of interest, and declaring interests); • managing the charity’s resources responsibly; • exercising independent judgement; • acting with reasonable care, skill and diligence; • ensuring the charity is accountable.

We are looking for people who: • believe in the values and mission of Women@theWell; • have the ability and confidence to listen, question, deliberate, and plan, collectively and collaboratively; • are willing to learn about, or have experience with, the work of a small charity trustee board; • are willing to play an active role in the board’s collective responsibilities and offer or develop skills in an area the board may need (e.g. social work, fundraising and development, GDPR, charity law); We are also looking for a new Treasurer among the small set of Trustees we hope to appoint this year, and hope this person will have professional finance experience.

Trustees are ordinarily appointed for a three-year term. In some instances we may appoint for a shorter term to regularise our cycle of recruitment and term-end dates. Six board meetings annually, trustees are also required to join a working group which will be another four meetings a year.
